![]() ![]() My love of Sonic CD's OST made me forget Mania's OST. Not gonna fucking lie, as it shames me to say this. Sonic CD is just an overall mediocre game. Sonic 1-3&k, Mania and a few tracks from the 8-bit games are where it's at. While I voted US in the poll, I'd still say taken as "music", the JP one reigns supreme and definitely fits more into Sonic's ethos. Adventure 1 and 2 have bad soundtracks too. If it were in some of the later Sonic games that prioritized speed, it'd be far better (lots of the modern Sonic Generations levels worked well with the Sonic CD tracks you could put in). A Master Use License is negotiated for the usage of a particular sound recording (also known as a master). That being said, the JP soundtrack is still remarkable on its own. The producer, film studio, TV network, or other content creator has to pay to license BOTH the master recording rights and the composition rights before they can use the music. It's unique and unlike anything else in the series. I love the throwback electro-rock vibe of it. To that end, the US soundtrack is far superior when actually playing the game because it keeps the pace, creating a pretty vibrant synthscape that's smooth as hell and leaves a lot of breathing room. ![]() The soundtrack has too much forward momentum, upbeat composition, and dense production, when the game itself expects you to be more active in exploration. The original music doesn't match the game's tempo and feels like it was composed in isolation to itself. 2 Sonic the Hedgehog - Remix Sonic Gems Collection Collision Chaos Radio DeevDaRabbit Sonic CD (2011) - only used if a higher quality. 1 Super Mega Drive Fan - Mega Drive Super Music Collection Vol. Sonic CD is one of the slowest playing and passive Sonic games in the series.
